Mosque khateeb, two guards fall victim to drive-by

Masjid-e-Tawwabeen khateeb Maulana Aslam Sheikhupuri and two of his guards were gunned down by unidentified assailants in a drive-by in Bahadurabad police precincts, bringing the death toll of the day to nine on Sunday.
Police said that the incident took place near the Rangoonwala Hall in the Dhoraji area. They said that four men on two motorcycles intercepted the car carrying Sheikhupuri and four of his guards. The culprits opened fire on both sides of the vehicle, they added.
Everyone in the car suffered bullet wounds and they were immediately taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Sheikhupuri and two of his guards succumbed to their injuries, said a police officer.
Sheikhupuri’s aide Maulana Sahibuddin Azam said that Sheikhupuri was also a faculty member of Jamia Binoria and Jamiatur Rasheed.
Moreover, he was a visiting teacher to several institutions, including Al Quran Courses Centre in Bahadurabad where he delivered Dars-e-Quran to ladies every Sunday. He is survived by two widows, five sons and a daughter.
Besides Sheikhupuri, at least four people were gunned down in separate areas of the metropolitan. Police said that two men were shot dead in Landhi after abduction.
They said that the ages of the victims were between 32 and 35 years. One of the deceased was identified as Shah Faisal, they added.
Separately, a member of a political party was shot dead and two others injured in Korangi Sector D. The deceased was identified as Sultan.
In another incident, a man was shot dead on the Rashid Minhas Road. Moreover, in the Jauharabad area, three people were wounded in an incident of firing by unidentified culprits.
BODY FOUND: In the Liaquatabad area, a man who was abducted three days ago was found dead on Sunday. Police said that the deceased was around 60 years old, whereas his identity is not yet known.
ARRESTS: Personnel of the Pakistan Rangers-Sindh launched a targeted operation in the Manghopir area and arrested several suspects.
The paramilitary force launched the operation on the information provided by Tehreek-e-Taliban militants arrested two days ago from Baldia Town. Sources claimed that those detained on Sunday also belong to the same terrorist outfit.
