Melting glaciers

The PPP government is not serious about the threat to the glaciers because of the 70:30 thermal to hydel ratio. If this is to be reversed to 30:70 we need both Bhasha and Kalabagh dam. Small and medium dams will not do it, neither will solar and wind energy with their moderate capacities.

We are pushing ahead with Bhasha dam but not doing anything to prolong the life of the glaciers on which will depend the life of Bhasha dam. The projected life of the glaciers at the present rate of burning of fossil fuels is 30 years. By the time Bhasha dam is commissioned the snow melt from the glaciers will only be for another 15 years unless steps are taken to prolong the life of the glaciers. Pakistan has to take the lead in its own interest before asking India, the bigger polluter, to follow suit.
