On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, a door to door dengue surveillance campaign has been launched for complete eradication of dengue larva and to sensitise inhabitants about the precautionary measures against dengue.
During this campaign special surveillance teams, each comprising an entomologist, officials of Health Department, City District Government, Lady Health Workers and volunteers, will carry out visits from house to house and they will search dengue larvae as well as educate the people.
This was stated by Kh Salman Rafique, Special Assistant to Chief Minister while inaugurating special dengue surveillance and awareness campaign at Government College for Women Baghban Pura in UC-38, Wahga Town Lahore.
He said the 6,000 houses located in UC-38 had been divided into 10 clusters and one team had been constituted for each cluster. This team will be further divided into 3 sub-teams.
On this occasion Pervez Malik, Wasim Qadir and Raheela Khadim, Secretary Information and Culture Mohyuddin Wani, Secretary Health Cap Arif Nadeem, Commissioner Lahore Jawad Rafiq Malik, EDO Health Lahore Dr Inam ul Haq and other senior officers were also present. Rafique said government and people of Punjab especially Lahoris learnt a lot from the previous spell of dengue which had taken many lives.
He said citizens of Lahore had boldly faced that challenge and under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and all the government departments along with the people and the media had succeeded to manage that critical situation. He said the experts of Sri Lanka and Thailand had also assisted the cause. He said door to door dengue surveillance campaign would be extended to other UCs. He directed the surveillance teams to educate the house-holders especially female family members regarding precautionary measures in order to control dengue breeding.
The inaugural ceremony was also addressed by Begum Shaista Pervez Malik, EDO Health Dr Inam ul Haq and the college principal Dr Fozia Iftikhar. Later Rafique, Pervez Malik, Shaista Pervez Malik, commissioner, Jawad Rafiq Malik, EDO Health, Dr Inam ul Haq and In-charge CM Research Cell Dr Wasim Akram (entomologist) also visited few houses of the area and briefed the residence about the dengue control arrangements.
