Pakistan Railways General Manager (Operations) Junaid Qureshi on Friday informed the quarters concerned that the ‘Lunda Bazar’ and a van stand adjoining the Pindi Station is a big ‘security risk’, requesting to take appropriate measures for ensuring foolproof security arrangements at the station. He suggested the immediate removal of ill-organized van stand and ‘Lunda Bazar’ which is stretched over around one-kilometer along the railway track to ensure improved security system. Chairing a meeting, the General Manager directed the railway officials to ensure timely departure and arrival of trains as it would help restore confidence of passengers in Railways service. Among others, Divisional Superintendent Syed Munawar Shah, Divisional Personnel Officer Shafiq Tahir, Divisional Mechanical Engineer Abu Bakar, DN-I Nooruddin, DTO Mariyam Gilani and SSP Railway Rawalpindi Muhmmad Ahmed Mukhtar attended the meeting. Divisional Superintendent Munawar Shah informed the meeting that Pakistan Railways has so far repaired 56 locomotives, while 16 more would be overhauled by end of the current month. He said addition of more engines in the railway fleet would improve its efficiency. Munawar Shah claimed that all trains are departing from Pindi Station and arriving there in accordance with given schedule, saying “All trains are well in time at Pindi Station.” The General Manager asked to give special focus on improving the freight service, bringing maximum number of goods trains at the track.
