KU celebrates Dr Chishti’s homecoming

On the occasion of the homecoming of Pakistan’s first virologist Dr Khalil Chishti, University of Karachi (KU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Qaisar has congratulated the entire country, especially the Chishti family.
A KU statement said on Friday that Department of Microbiology Chairperson Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and other faculty members gathered to celebrate the news of their teacher being released.
They expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Ansar Burney and all the others who struggled for the release of Dr Chishti, the statement added.
It said that on this occasion, Dr Chishti’s daughter Dr Ayesha said that the entire Pakistani nation stood together for the release of her father.
She appreciated the effort made by the students and faculty members of KU who raised their voices for the release of Dr Chishti. During the event, sweets were also distributed as a token of celebration.
JOB FAIR: The KU Department of Mass Communication organised a job fair at its premises, said a KU statement on Friday.
It said that Vice Consul General of Japan in Karachi Yukiochiai performed the opening of the event. Department of Mass Communication Chairperson Prof Dr Rafia Taj spoke of close, friendly ties between Pakistan and Japan.
She also appreciated the Japanese cooperation in the realms of education as well as towards the job fair. Taj said that such job fairs would be organised in the future as well. She was of the view that the acquisition of a better job is the right of able and talented students.
The aim of the job fair was to bring students and organisations on a platform where they interact with each other and students get the chance to show their competence and skills, it was further pointed out.
DUES: The KU Directorate of Evening Programme has notified that all those students of BS, BS (Honours) and Masters programmes of the Evening Programme who have not paid their tuition/examination fee so far are required to clear all their dues before May 26.
A KU announcement on Friday warned that those who fail to pay off their dues by this date would not be allowed to appear in the examinations.
