Supreme Court (SC) has been moved Friday to bar Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani from functioning as the incumbent premier of the country and employing the government resources and powers.
According to a private TV channel, a citizen Azhar Siddique filed the constitutional petition through his counsel AK Dogar. The petitioner pleaded the court to issue an order to forbid the premier from functioning.
The petition requested the court to prevent the premier from exercising the official powers and tapping into the government resources, as he stands disqualified after his conviction and punishment in contempt case.
The petition states that action from National Assembly speaker or Election Commission is absolutely uncalled for under the law, as the speaker or the Chief Election Commissioner is not a court to give an opinion on the SC ruling.
It should be mentioned here that Azhar Siddique filed the same petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) where Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui earlier today raised some objections on the plea. Unable to satisfy the court with an appropriate reply, the petitioner withdrew his plea; but a little later, he submitted the same plea to apex court.
