Punjab Inspector General of Police Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman said the ‘thana culture’ has not changed because of the pharaoh-like attitude of the police officers.
Addressing officers at the Police Darbar at the District Police Lines on Thursday, he urged the officials to mend their attitude and make themselves subservient to the citizens.
He claimed that incidents of robbery, abduction for ransom and burglary had decreased in the province.
He appreciated the work done by the Lahore Police and said the police under the supervision of CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen and DIG Operation Rai Tahir will work more effectively to provide relief to the citizens.
The IGP said the display of weapons had been banned in the province and directed the officers to ensure the strict implementation of the orders.
He said the Punjab Chief Minister had assured that he (the CM) would not interfere in the process of posting and transferring the police officers.
Rehman stated that the officers should not even accept the IGP’s influence while dealing with corruption cases.
He directed that the complaints of the people should be dealt with on an urgent basis.
In case of rape of any minor girl, he directed the CCPO to ensure his presence on the spot.
He urged the police officers to wipe out criminal elements from the society in order to win the confidence of the public and said it was the responsibility of the police to bring criminals to justice.
The IGP added that the police officials martyred are valuable assets for the department and the nation.
IGP Rehman said according to the new policy, two family members of each policeman killed in action would be recruited in the police force.
Later, he listened to the complaints of the policemen and assured that their issues will be resolved.
While talking to media people, he said intelligence schools were being established to eradicate terrorism from the society.
The IGP said police officials should avoid taking money from leasing companies in return for recovering vehicles.
CCPO Lahore Muhammad Aslam Tareen, DIG Investigation Malik Amer Ali, DIG Operation Rai Tahir, SPs, DSPs and a large number of policemen were also present on the occasion.
