The Punjab University, Oriental College, Department of Urdu on Thursday organized a one-day national seminar on the thoughts of renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Meera Ji at Sherani Hall, Old Campus on Thursday.
First session of the seminar was organized to pay tribute to Faiz Ahmed Faiz while Muneeza Hashmi, daughter of Faiz Ahmed Faiz presided over the session while Abid Hassan Minto gave concluding remarks on the thoughts of Faiz.
Dr Ziaul Hassan and Dr Arifa read their papers on Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
Muneeza Hashmi, daughter of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, in her address said that Faiz was a world class revolutionary poet and intellectual.
“Faiz Ahmed Faiz believed in socialist realism and successfully portrayed the cause of oppressed humanity,” she said.
The second session of the seminar was conducted to pay tribute to Meera Ji which was presided over by the Rashid Dar, nephew of Meera Ji.
Dr Fakhar ul Haq Noori and Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyer presented a complete and precise portray of Meera Ji on the occassion.
Professor Dr Fakhar ul Haq Noori, Chairman Urdu Department dwelled on the significance of a series of seminars that are regularly held at Oriental college which contribute towards the creation of modern literature and knowledge.
In his closing address renewed scholar Intazar Hussain highlighted the personality and works of Meera Ji and thanked all the scholars and participants of the seminar. Chairman Urdu Department Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori thanked all the scholars and participants of the seminar.
