A group of lawyers once again thrashed a sub-inspector on Thursday in the premises of the session court when he presented evidence proving the innocence of an accused.
According to Sub-Inspector Imtiaz Wahla, advocate Qamar Shahid Meo forced him not present evidence in favour of a person accused of theft.
Wahla said he refused to oblige the advocate. Advocate Qamar, along with his colleagues, subjected the sub-inspector to torture after he presented the evidence before Additional Session Judge Zafar Iqbal. The lawyers injured the police official’s head and tore his uniform, before other police officers intervened to control the situation.
A case has been lodged against 35 lawyers, including advocate Qamar Shahid Meo.
The victim has also appealed to the Lahore High Court Chief Justice and Punjab IG to take action against the lawyers who pressurise the police and lower judiciary through acts of vandalism.
It was the second consecutive day when lawyers subjected police personnel to torture in the provincial capital.
On Wednesday, a group of lawyers beat up police personnel, including Green Town police station ASI Zohaib in the sessions’ court.
