The Industrial Area police Islamabad on Thursday busted a gang of kidnappers and recovered an abducted businessman safely from the area of Gujrat without paying the ransom of Rs 40 million to them. Addressing a press conference, Industrial Area SP Ashiq Warraich said that Malik Sohail Mumtaz of House No 30, Street No 17, Sector I-9/1 lodged a report on May 8 that his brother Asif Mehmood dealing in spare parts at Chaudhry Bazaar Gunj Mandi Rawalpindi, had been kidnapped by unidentified persons when he was on his way back home on May 7. The Industrial Area police registered the case and started investigation into the matter. It was told that the wife of Asif Mehmood received a call from the cell of her husband. An unidentified caller from the cell phone of her husband demanded Rs 40 million as ransom and threatened to kill Asif Mehmood in case of failure to give the money. On the basis of this information, the police traced his presence in Gujrat district. The team, in coordination with the local police, raided a house in Shadman Colony, Gujrat, and recovered the abducted person besides arresting two of the kidnappers. The nabbed kidnappers were identified as Khalid Shehzad of Mannu Abad, Muridke, Sheikhupura district, and Malik Arif, a resident of IJ Colony, Kharian Cantt. During preliminary investigations, they confessed to the abduction of Asif Mehmood.
