The Lahore High Court on Wednesday summoned the inspector general of police Punjab for May 11 to explain why police officials were not performing their duties in accordance with law.
The court summoned the IGP after it was noted that police officials released two accused, involved in a fraud case, after their arrest and registered an FIR against the complainant of the fraud case to pressurise him. The court suspended the FIR registered against the complainant till the next date of hearing and adjourned the matter till May 11.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan passed the order on a petition seeking action against delinquent police officials who released an accused after being arrested.
It is pertinent to mention that DSP Satukatla Shoaib Ahmad on May 2 submitted before the court that he was trying to resolve the issue amicably and mentioned that he arrested accused Muhammad Akbar but, later, released him on personal bond. However, the DSP assured court that the accused would not leave Pakistan.
As the proceedings started today, the court was informed that accused Muhammad Akbar had gone abroad. The petitioner-counsel also told the court that other accused Muhammad Zafar was also arrested by police but too released by SP Investigation Muhammad Usman.
The court was also informed that police registered an FIR against complainant to pressure him.
The court observed that it seems that police officials were in connivance with the accused and giving special favour to them.
After hearing the arguments, the court summoned IGP for May 11 and suspended the FIR registered against the complainant.
