‘Saving Face’ at New York Indian Film fest

The 12th edition of the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), an international film extravaganza, will be held in Lower Manhattan May 23-27. Pakistani journalist and filmmaker Obaid Chinoy’s Oscar-winning documentary ‘Saving Face’ will be screened at the event which will also pay tribute to late evergreen star Dev Anand. Actress Kareena Kapoor and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar are among the celebrities expected to walk the red carpet. Others expected to attend are Anurag Kashyap, Rituparno Ghosh, Salman Rushdie and Mira Nair. A tribute will be paid to Dev Anand with the screening of his film ‘Hum Dono Rangeen’, a coloured version of his black-and-white classic ‘Hum Dono’. NYIFF will also host US premiere of both parts of Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, which are also lined up to be screened at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival. Kashmiri film ‘Inshallah, Football’, Shyam Benegal’s ‘Zubeida’, ‘Mammo’ and ‘Sardari Begum’ will also be screened. Other award-winning films from South Africa, Australia, and Sri Lanka along with India’s regional language films will also be showcased.
