A Trilateral meeting between military officials of Pakistan, Afghanistan and ISAF, is scheduled to take place later this week at Rawalpindi.
“It is in continuation of the series of regular meetings, held under the Tri Partite Commission Framework,” ISPR stated Wednesday.
According to ISPR, talks will focus on enhancing efficiency of border coordination measures along the Pak-Afghan border and to improve multilateral mechanisms at operational and tactical levels.
The ISAF delegation will be led by General John Allen, Commander ISAF, while General Sher Muhammad Karimi, Chief of General Staff of Afghan National Army will head the Afghan delegation.
This is the first time three forces are meeting after the deadly US airstrikes on a Salala checkpost that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Nov 26 last year.
Though the incident caused tension between the US and Pakistan but military coordination was going on.
The ISAF side understand that improved border coordination could help avoiding Salala like incidents. Since 9/11 Pakistan is helping the ISAF forces in the bordering areas to control terrorism besides launching several military operations against terrorists in the Pakistani areas along the Afghan border.
