The Supreme Court on Tuesday reissued notices and sought reply from Interior Minster Rehman Malik and MNA Farahnaz Isfahani in dual nationality case. The bench headed by Chief Justice (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case regarding dual citizenships of the parliamentarians and seeking their disqualification on this count. Despite the court orders, neither of the two appeared before the bench. Petition filed by Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi said Zahid, Iftikhar and Malik were holding British nationalities, whereas Farahnaz, spouse of former Pakistan envoy to Washington, was holding American nationality. Issuing notices to Malik and Isfahani again, the bench consisting of Justice Khilji Hussain and Justice Tariq Pervez, directed the Senate and National Assembly secretaries to implement court orders. The counsel of MNA Iftikhar Nazeer denied that his client has dual citizenship. The counsel of MNA Chaudhry Zahid Iqbal pleaded the court for more time to file his exhaustive rejoinder. The court adjourned the hearing until May 10.
