JUI demands arrest of scholar Nasib Khan’s killers

Expressing concern over mysterious assassination of known religious figure and teacher of Darul Uloom Haqqania Maulana Nasib Khan, leaders of both factions of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam demanded swift arrest of the culprits. The demand was made in a well attended protest rally held in Peshawar on Tuesday. The JUI-F was represented by former senator Maulana Gul Nasib Khan and MPA Mufti Kifayat Ullah whereas the JUI-S was headed by its chief Maulana Samiul Haq. The protesters from Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshehra, Charsada and several other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining Tribal Areas assembled outside the Peshawar High Court. North Waziristan’s Maulana Nasib Khan was associated with Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak since the last 18 years as teacher. He was counted amongst close and confidential aides of Maulana Sher Ali Shah and associated with the JUI-F.

COAS urges minimum civilian casualties during operations

In the ongoing military operations against terrorists it must be ensured that collateral damage and civilian casualties are kept to a minimum, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani said on Tuesday. An ISPR statement issued on Tuesday the COAS visited Headquarters of Peshawar Corps. The army chief was briefed about the ongoing operations against terrorists and on various projects aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, and help bringing affected areas back to normalcy through education, and economic development. The COAS expressed satisfaction over the progress of operations and stressed upon the need to ensure that collateral damage and civilian casualties are kept to a minimum. Earlier, the COAS laid a wreath on the martyrs’ monument in Peshawar Cantt and also visited the injured soldiers under treatment at CMH Peshawar. He praised the courage and valour of the troops as well as sacrifices of civilians caught in the midst of active operations.
