UAE Red Crescent launches productive family project

The UAE Red Crescent Monday launched the project of distribution of the productive families among the flood affected people who were affected by the floods last year in Sindh province.
1100 families consisting of widows and children of special need have benefited from the project, which cost more than US$ 5.5 million. A delegation of UAE Red Crescent headed by H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Mazroui, Chairman of Board of Directors, has handed over to these families, animal production means i.e. productive cows in order to enable these families to find a sustainable income source and help it to live well instead of depending upon immediate relief which is of short term period.
The ceremony was held in the presence of H.E. Dr. Fahmeeda Mirza speaker of the National Assembly and H.E. Essa Abdullah Al Basha Al Noaimi, the UAE Ambassador in Pakistan.
H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Mazroui assured that the project is one of the leading initiatives which were carried out by the UAE Red Crescent for the sake of natural disasters affected people in Pakistan under the esteemed instructions of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, with the support by H.H. Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, H.H General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy ruler of Abu Dhabi and deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces and constant follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ruler’s Representative in Western Area and Chairman of UAE Red Crescent.
He added in his address at the launching ceremony of the project in Badeen in front of officials and local people that the basis of UAE response to the floods affected people was the humanitarian duty laid upon it shoulder towards the Pakistani brethren who have strong bonds with the UAE nation.
It is also a response to the moral duty towards the victims of natural disasters and crisis. He said that the project is helping thousands of families in the Sindh province that suffered from the devastated floods last year and destroyed many places including farm sector and livestock.
Al Mazroui highlighted the aim of this humanitarian project and its economical and social impact. He emphasized that it will play a significant role in the economical and social stability of the affected families and it will enhance its capabilities to overcome the crisis and open a new hope to live once again.
He said that such fundamental projects are included in the priority list of the UAE Red Crescent, its plans and strategies in the hope of providing the assistant for local people and the ability to regain their activities and works and means of livelihood especially in agriculture sector and livestock which were lost due to disasters.
He explained that the humanitarian activities are based on these foundations, which aim to provide development projects that could lead to the betterment of families. It could also guarantee the future of the weak categories in the society and might decrease the unemployment ratio among the locals especially the youth. He elaborated that the UAE Red Crescent has gone very far in this area and executed many projects, which were having explicit impact in improving the condition of the floods affected people.
On this occasion also, H.E. Issa Abdullah Al Basha Al Noaimi said the leadership of UAE adopted an excellent approach to help natural disasters affected people through the provision of relief assistance without distinction of sex, race or sect, and said that the UAE attaches great importance to Pakistan and its nation and always works to alleviate the suffering of Pakistani people and reduce the impact of natural disasters of the Pakistani nation. He pointed out that the UAE has implemented about 280 development projects in various fields during the past years in Pakistan which reflects its commitment to the humanitarian activities and to provide the basic services for the Pakistanis. He explained that the humanitarian assistance to the people of Pakistan reflects deep and strong ties between two brotherly countries and added: “we will spare no effort in promoting this special relationship through the implementation of more projects for the benefit of the people of Pakistan”.
Dr. Fahmida Mirza, speaker of national assembly of Pakistan said during the ceremony that the floods of last year are the worst in Pakistan’s history which affected some 20 million people and the province of Sindh was the most affected which destroyed about 22 percent of agricultural land UAE to the humanitarian activities in Pakistan and it is a fundamental initiative of the UAE Red Crescent which has not spared anything in helping the affected people. She added that the UAE Red Crescent responded directly to disaster and moved its cadres and humanitarian assistance to the affected areas. She noted that the people of these areas are thankful to the UAE for its attitudes.
On the other hand the delegation of the Red Crescent along with the Ambassador of UAE in Pakistan inaugurated the Sheikh Khalifa city in Balakot Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which consists of 211 houses, a clinic, a mosque and a school.
A number of other projects including 37 mosques and 20 tube wells have been inaugurated in Rawalpindi, Muzaffarabad , Mardan , Balakot , Islamabad , Wazirstan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
