The federal capital would have the largest ever International Cricket Stadium of the country and a world class cricket academy equipped with latest sports facilities at an area of 35 acres.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has provided 35 acres of land in Shakarparian area of Islamabad for the state-of-the-art sport facility, the first-ever of its kind in the country.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf, Chairman Prime Minister’s Task Force on Islamabad, Faisal Sakhi Butt and Chairman CDA, Engineer Farkhand Iqbal on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PM Task Force on Islamabad, Faisal Sakhi Butt said that it is a hallmark for the federal capital and another milestone of the government in its efforts to develop sport infrastructure in the country. He said that the international cricket stadium and academy would not only be added as an international cricket facility but also is a beautiful addition in the sport zone being developed in the area. He said that government has also allotted land for the Golf facility near to this stadium as a part of its initiative to promote sports activities in the region, which comprise of the capital city, adjoining areas, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK) and the Kashmir. He said that the sports infrastructure of the capital city is being developed on modern lines.
Chairman PCB said that there is a lot of talent in the region which needs to be exploited by developing sport infrastructure of international standard. He said that the efforts of the President of Pakistan and the cooperation of CDA must be lauded to promote sports in the region and give a message of peace to the world. He said that the cricket academy would serve as a regional hub for training the people from this areas including KPK, AJK and FATA.
Chairman CDA, Engineer Farkhand Iqbal said that the land for the cricket stadium has been allotted to the PCB for promoting the sports as part of the government agenda to encourage the healthy activities in terrorism hit country. He said that CDA would get 30 percent of the income from the sport activities and commercial areas develop in this facility.
