Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf Chief Imran Khan came up clear on Monday with its intentions to launch a parallel long march to overshadow a possible show of strength by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. Threatening the government, Khan said it should prepare for ‘the biggest long march in history”, in case it failed to honour the Supreme Court’s orders. Speaking to a gathering of students at a private university in Lahore, the PTI chief reiterated his party’s demand calling for Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s resignation.
He also urged President Asif Ali Zardari to quit his office. The leaders of all political parties had started preparing their children for the upcoming general elections, he said, adding that the PTI did not believe in the ‘politics of inheritance’ and hinted at handing over the reigns of the party’s leadership to the youth. Lambasting Nawaz Sharif for his dual politics, the PTI chief said if the Nawaz League was sincere with democracy, then they should resign from the assemblies. According to a press release issued on Monday, Khan had also met earlier with a PTI delegation from the Mardan district in Islamabad. Khan said during the meeting that PTI will eliminate traditional politics from Pakistan. The PTI chief said the criteria for awarding the party’s posts and tickets in the coming elections would be based on merit and honesty. “The party’s election will enhance the performance graph for PTI,” Khan added.
