Some 45 patients were brought to different hospitals of Karachi with suspicion of Dengue fever from May 1 to May 6, said the weekly report issued by Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell on Monday.
All these suspected cases were reported to out-patients’ departments of different hospitals and consequent to laboratory tests, 43 of these patients were found to be positive and two negative. One of the patient found to be a confirmed case of dengue is still hospitalized for needed intervention,” said the compilers of the report.
Other 42 positive cases did not need to be administered with drips nor required to be placed under observation and were stable enough to recover on their own. The patients and their care-takers were, however, urged to ensure proper hygienic conditions around their surroundings with particular reference to avoid mosquito bite.
Treatment for confirmed dengue fever cases is otherwise also little dependent on drug therapy with major focus to protect the patient against dehydration. Fortunately no dengue fever case has been reported from any other part of the province and Karachi too at the current point of time is not exposed to any serious situation vis a vis dengue fever and its severer forms.
“However, this is the most appropriate time to raise awareness among urban population to prevent the disease that is seasonal and is globally reported to persist in our environs for quite some time,” said Dr. Amir Shakil Mullick, the coordinator provincial dengue surveillance cell. He advised all dengue fever suspected cases not to get panicked and to ensure optimum water intake so as to avoid dehydration. Symptoms of dengue fever include high grade fever, that persists for five days or beyond, severe body ache and in severer form of the ailment concerned patients may also report with bleeding via nose or mouth.
