Calling Naseeb Khan’s murder an extra-judicial killing, clerics belonging to various religious parties asked the ANP-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to expose those involved in the murder or resign after accepting its failure to protect civilians.
“Maulana Naseeb Khan, a known religious scholar, was not involved in any case, but he was kidnapped and killed. Some secret hands are behind his killing,” the clerics claimed while addressing a press conference on Monday.
Calling the killing terrorism, they said Khan was on his way to Peshawar from Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak when some people intercepted him in Taro Jaba are of Nowshera, disembarked him from the vehicle and pushed him into their own vehicle.
They said after the kidnapping on May 2, Naseeb’s body was found in the jurisdiction of Pishta Khara police station near Bara Road the next day.
However, they lamented that even after the passage of a week, neither a first information report (FIR) had been registered nor had the district police officer (DPO) took any action.
They appealed to the chief justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) to take suo motu notice of Naseeb Khan’s killing and asked the chief minister of the province to resign after accepting his failure to providing security to civilians even in settled areas.
“If an artist or singer becomes sick, high officials of the government reach the hospital to enquire after his health, but not even a condolence statement was issued by them after Khan’s death,” they said.
The clerics announced to stage a peaceful protest demonstration today (Tuesday) outside the PHC aimed at condemning the killing and appealing to the PHC CJ to take suo motu notice of the killing.
The religious clerics warned that there were 2,600 madrassas in which nearly a million students were enrolled, who could avenge the killing, however, they were peaceful and would cooperate with the government.
Those who attended the conference included Mufti Kafayatullah, Maulana Yousaf Shah, Maulana Khalil Ahamd Mukhlis, Maulana Mohammad Ismail Darvesh, former MPA Mohammad Ibrahim Qasmi, Ikramullah Shahid, Muazzam Butt and others.
