Camouflaging corruption

The Supreme Court bench hearing NRO implementation case has rightly expressed its dissatisfaction over NAB reports. This organisation was created to investigate, probe and prosecute corrupt officials (high ranking) and hold them accountable for their misdeeds. In the early days of its inception, it did excellent job under the command of the then NAB Chairman, but later it fell in disrepute.

After the political appointments in the NAB from top to bottom, its complexion and composition has entirely changed for the worse. Now it is used as a political tool by the government to hide its corruption. The glaring example of Swiss cases and matter of PM’s behaviour and constant defiance of clear court orders was a matter of concern. Millions of dollars have been stashed away in Swiss accounts, depriving the nation of its money. There is no harm in writing the letter to Swiss authorities but the Gilani has taken a political stand not to do so. Some of his fellow jailbirds were appointed to high positions by him. A lot of criticism of these shady appointments was made by all the concerned people and the press. Merit was ignored and denied in such appointments. Adnan Khawaja and Malik Riaz are two glaring examples of this sort.

NAB has been camouflaging corruption of all sorts instead of taking any action to thoroughly investigated high level scandals. It has miserably failed. NAB chairman should be held accountable. The SC should not put up with this negligent behaviour and duty. It must deliver, people are keenly watching. The SC is the court of last resort and last hope.
