The Sports Board Punjab has issued a show cause notice to the installer of the blue turf at the National Hockey Stadium for slow pace of work and in breach of the tender notice and tender documents.
“We are not satisfied with the pace of work and the way things are being done to lay the blue synthetic turf and that is why we have issued a show cause notice to the installer, Swallow international,” said Aamir Jalil, Director Sports.
Punjab Government is fulfilling a national cause issued a special grant of Rs 35 million for the installation of the blue plastic surface to provide the newly introduced pitch for the practice of the national team for their preparations for London Olympics.
Work order of laying the turf was issued in March last and as per the agreement the installer will be handing over the ground to SBP by the end of June, before the given dead line of July but the way work is being carried out it has put a huge question mark on finishing the project in time.
“The specifications of shock pads required to be installed have also been incorporated in the tender notice and it is quite surprising that the installer has not yet removed them rather taking a decision at their own for using them with the new turf which is a gross violation of the tender,” he said.
“We have issued the show cause notice to ensure that things are being done in a transparent way and we will not tolerate any irregularity in this regard,” he maintained.
