Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri has termed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s rallies a move aimed at misleading the masses.
Speaking at a news conference along with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani at the Sindh Secretariat, she said, “We will defend democracy, as we have given sacrifices for it.”
Marri said that democracy is necessary for the survival of the country, whose situation is improving due to democracy.
She said that Nawaz Sharif talks about violation of the Charter of Democracy, but he himself is not following it, as respect of each other’s mandate was one of its clauses.
About Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s conviction, she said that the PPP respects the judiciary, adding that a detailed decision into the contempt case is awaited.
She said that the legal fraternity and bar councils are not supporting Sharif. The provincial minister said that the PPP would also hold rallies across the country, as the party is always ready to make any sacrifice for democracy.
Marri said that people have become enlightened and they are aware of Sharif’s deal with a dictator in the past.
