CPSP president lauds Shifa Hospital’s liver transplant programme

College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) President Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry has commended Shifa International Hospital (SIH) for starting living donor liver transplant programme for the first time in Pakistan.
He congratulated SIH President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Manzoor H Qazi and liver transplant team for performing first ever living donor pediatric liver transplant of a 12-year-old child at Shifa on April 30, 2012, followed by another liver transplant of a 47-year-old person on May 1, 2012.
He said now people of Pakistan would not have to go abroad for liver transplant as Shifa had introduced first class liver transplant programme in Pakistan. He was addressing to the participants of a ceremony arranged at SIH in collaboration with CPSP in connection with Golden Jubilee Celebrations of CPSP.
Three workshops on the topics of “management of vascular malformations of the head and neck – multidisciplinary case”, “handling common emergencies” and “hepatobiliary and gastroenterology” were conducted on this occasion. Associate Director Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) SIH Dr. Darakshan Jabeen coordinated the workshops. Postgraduate residents, doctors and medical students of Rawalpindi and Islamabad attended the workshops.
Vice President CPSP Prof Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, Dr Manzoor H Qazi and other officials of Shifa and CPSP were also present on the occasion.
President CPSP acknowledged the contribution of Shifa in medical research and development in Pakistan besides providing medical care of an international standard to the patients. “Shifa is indeed a national asset,” Prof. Chaudhry stated. He was earlier informed about Shifa’s medical services, Liver Transplant Program and Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) program. Dr Manzoor H Qazi acknowledged and thanked CPSP for its cooperation and support for Shifa’s PGME program. Later Dr Qazi presented souvenirs to Prof Zafarullah Chaudhry, Prof Shoaib Shafi and other senior officials of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
