Pakistan People’s Party Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider has congratulated Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on increasing the minimum wages and pension of workers as well as marriage and education allowances for the children of workers.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Haider said that he hoped that the announcement of an increase of Rs 2,000 in minimum wages in Punjab made by the province’s Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif was not a mere political gimmick in a show of one-upmanship.
He said that the banning of trade unions in units with less than 50 workers, the cases of terrorism registered against union leaders of Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore, the most brutal police action against Anjuman Muzareen Punjab who were trying to approach Sharif for reminding him of a previous political gimmick, and hundreds of other anti-workers steps are proof enough of the policies that the Punjab government has been following.
Haider urged Sharif to ensure that the announced minimum wages are actually paid to the workers and the previous anti-workers acts of his government are undone.
