The Pakistan Medical Association office bearers on Thursday demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP) working in 11 districts of Punjab, under the Chief Minister’s Initiative on Primary Healthcare.
Dr Tanveer Anwar, Dr Izhar Ahmed, Dr Ihsan-ur-Rehman, Dr Yasmin Ihsan, Dr Kamran, Dr Sabahat Habib Khan and Dr Salman Kazmi were among the office bearers who demanded the immediate regularisation of the services of the doctors working in the PRSP.
The office bearers added that the restoration of the Punjab Public Service Commission and the end of contractual appointments in Punjab have placed a question mark on the existence of the PRSP.
They said the programme is operating on the lines of the East India Company in the rural health centres of Punjab.
They said the health department can not appoint any regular employee under the administrative control of a private company.
They stated that the PRSP was presenting fake performance reports to the Punjab government.
They appealed to the government to take over the PRSP-manned districts by ending the contract system.
