Pakistan has once again told the United States to respect its sovereignty, pointing out that the drone strikes are illegal, counterproductive and violate the country’s integrity and sovereignty. During a weekly briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesman Moazzam Ahmed Khan said “we have repeatedly made it clear to the United States that these attacks are unacceptable”. He said Islamabad regards the drone strikes as illegal, counterproductive and violative of our integrity and sovereignty. He said it was “in our mutual interest that the United States respect the recommendations of Pakistan’s parliament”.
He said Pakistan had made it clear that the future contours of relationship with the United States would be based on the recommendations made by the parliament. Khan said that no decision had yet been taken on the restoration of NATO supply lines. We are currently in the process of finalising the work plan for effective implementation of the parliamentary recommendations, he said, adding, “We want to have normal relations with Washington.” However, he assured that all decisions would be made in accordance with the parliament’s recommendations. When asked about Chicago Summit, the spokesman said Pakistan had not yet taken any decision to attend the moot on Afghanistan.
