Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday expressed serious concerns over the hindering role of spy agencies in the missing persons’ case, while giving the deadline to recover all missing persons by Friday (today).
A three-member bench, including Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, resumed the hearing of the case on deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan. As the families of the missing persons wept before the court, the CJP said the distressed families would surely get relief when their loved ones return to them. He said that nothing would be fruitful until facts were disclosed before the court.
He said that no one had enough courage to inform the court from where the missing persons had been recovered. “The intelligence agencies have submitted in their report that the missing persons were not in their custody; if they have not detained the missing persons, then who is responsible? The levies or the police?” the CJP asked. The Interior secretary of Balochistan told the court that he did not have the reports of all the missing persons.
Justice Khilji asked the Frontier Corps (FC) deputy inspector general (DIG) Brigadier Shehzad that the people in the province were very much afraid, and that the FC had to maintain the respect of its uniform. The CJP remarked that everyone appearing in the court was blaming the FC, upon which the DIG FC termed it “very sad”.
The CJP warned the DIG Police to recover all missing persons in a day otherwise all the officers would be dismissed. Justice Tariq Parvez said it seemed that Police was involved in the missing persons’ case. The CJP ordered to arrest Investigative Officer Abdul Qadir for making false statements before the court. The families of the missing persons continued to record their statements on the second successive day. The court adjourned the hearing until Friday (today).
