At least five people were killed and several others injured in two high-intensity bomb explosions in a village in the Chamarkand area of Bajaur Agency on Thursday.
Officials in Khar, headquarters of Bajaur Agency, said some unidentified militants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along a road in Nawankili, Chamarkand. The explosives went off when some people were passing along the road.
Officials said the target of the bomb attack were two tribal elders who were leading a peace lashkar against the militants. The elders were identified as Anar Gul and Ziarat Gul, and were relatives.
Soon after the explosion, the security forces rushed to the site and cordoned off the area after shifting the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital. During the search operation, another IED exploded, killing three personnel of the security forces. The killed personnel included two of the Frontier Corps and one of Levies Force.
Meanwhile, Hussain alias Hamza, a notorious commander of banned Lashkar-e-Islam was arrested by the security forces from Peshawar’s Saddar area on Thursday. Officials said the arrested man was shifted for interrogation to an unknown place.
