Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani on Thursday said India had toughened its stance on Siachen as compared to 1989.
Talking to reporters after his third visit to Gayari to review search and rescue work, Gen Kayani said India had now been demanding the re-determination of positions. Kayani added that it “takes two hands to clap”.
According to an ISPR press release, Gen Kayani was briefed about the progress on the ongoing work, including efforts to create a water course to safely drain the lake which was formed by the blocking of the Gayari River by the avalanche.
The satellite data link also became operational on Thursday, which would allow real time video monitoring of relief work from the GHQ.
The army chief remained with the troops for some time and lauded their motivation in face of tough conditions and extreme weather.
When our former PM puts out a statement about unilateral withdrawl of forces, what can we expect from India? It senses our weakning resolve and suddenly hardens it's position. Our enemy is within. What signals do we send to our brave soldiers who guard our frontiers day and night. Sometimes doable becomes undoable because of a silly statement.
Pakistan is a country which is more at threat from enemies within than from outside.
Because your former PM has common sense to understand that Pakistan can not keep it up….and why you blame him ? Kayani gave first signal.. he only stated so following Kayani's statements..
India has toughened the stance because one of our most stupid head of a political party advocated unilateral withdrawal of troops from Siachin.
Really?? Is it a former PM that runs the foreign policies? Are his words so powerful? India doesnt care about what Nawaz says because India have a well organized situation in siachen unlike Pak. If pak army was sitting on the top of the glacier comfortably would they have agreed for troop withdrawal? This is just stupidity
@ Zakaria.
The foreign minster of the current Prime Minster and the President was offering to disclose state secrets and sensitive information to a waning super-power in exchange of removal of the army chief and the chief of ISI in order for the PM & the President to stay in power in Pakistan, perhaps in their calculations, indefinitely.
I am hoping if the political process continues we shall start to have better people come in to politics. It would certainly make a difference if honest civil and military officers after a cooling off period of two years following their retirement enter politics on the platform of the political party of their choice.
In this backdrop where are the patriotic forces?

There is no change in India's stand. It is Pakistan that continue to perform summersaults to suit its needs thinking that world consists of fools. Where is change in Pakistan's policy? when I can't put up fight so let us talk peace and when I believe I have an upper hand I talk of nuclear flash point of Kashmir !!!!! WOW…
I agree pakistan faces internal threat; and the threat is the political leadership
And kiayani's job is…………….?
It's stupid to think that India actually changed its stance due to nawaz sharifs statements…nawaz sharif is just another Pakistani for them till he comes into the government..his statements doesn't really matter to them.
Maybe India is taking a tougher stance now because they know that we have a weak General as army chief who could easily be intimidated. In 1989 we had a General who really was a General and not a coward like kiayani. Maybe that is the difference!!!
Kamran but that strong general who was also a cammando ran out of country?
May be India taking this stance because of the feminine- face of pakistan a girl heading paksitans foriegn ministry having degree in hotel management.
India never said that it wants to withdraw. It is only silent and waiting to see what Pakistan plans to do.Statements are not enough to make policy decisions!
