The initial enquiry report on previous month’s Bhoja plane crash was submitted to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Defence on Wednesday.
According to the report, the plane was grounded last year after remaining in use for 26 years, while this incident apparently appears to be merely “an accident”.
In a meeting of the NA Standing Committee for Defence held with MNA Azra Fazal in chair, enquiry committee chief Mujahid Islam said the ill-fated plane was manufactured in 1985, and was procured by South Africa from Britain in 1999, and was grounded in 2011.
Thereon Bhoja Airline acquired it on lease in the current year, and had made 60 hours of flight for the company. Shortly before the disaster, the plane was last seen on the radar six miles away from the airport. The initial report on the plane’s cockpit voice recorder and black box is expected from Washington on May 7. The representatives of the plane’s insurance company have been called here. Mujahid Islam said that according to his past experience, the Bhoja crash was an accident, but all reasons should be investigated, as blaming the weather only was not correct, as other planes were also landing in the same weather. Committee member Shahid Khaqan Abbasi demanded to wrap up the FIR on plane crash, saying it was merely “an accident”. FIA investigations should also be put on hold, he asked.
The committee has called for the fitness certificate of the plane and the details of the pilot’s experience. The committee recommended the deletion of Section 302 from the FIR, while directing for the earliest completion of the enquiry.

  1. "Merely an accident". A pathetic choice of words and a disgrace to the emotions of the surviving relatives.

The report said it was an accident. Was this a preventable accident? Could this have been predicted? This could have been if the age of the plane had been giving due consideration and the plane grounded permanently.

By the sound of it it was preventable. The plane had been grounded in 2011, how was it that it was deemed airworthy at a later date.

Instead of the Parliamentary committee coming up with its findings an investigation by the Boeing Company would have been of some value.

The planes are grounded permanently after they have completed x number of hours of flying and considered unsafe to carry passengers for various reasons.

This was certainly a preventable accident.

  2. Dr Azra Pechua MNA is wife of the man appointed by this govt as CFO of CAA. What else can u expect when both MNA's with serious conflict of interest ie Dr Azra and Shahid Khaqan are members of this committee. No VVIP in Pakistan now travels by any of these airline, so they don't give a damn if people die in crashes.

  3. 132 Pakistanis died and this Committee headed by AZ sis with Khaqan Abbasi as a member dismisses it as a mere accident. Everybody knows that CAA under pressure of bribes and political pressure gave permission to Bhoja to fly. Why is the Govt not willing to bring back MD Bhoja Arshad Jalil who is on a visit to China. If he is wanted by courts in Pakistan, I am sure China will hand him to Pakistan.

  4. Dear friends it is indeed a tragedy losing lives. But what you need to understand that these types of accidents do happen since I am also pilot for last 18 years and I have seen many. The age of aircraft is not the issue as many aircraft like C_130 manufactured in 1956 or take the

example of F16 which came in 1983 are still flying in best possible shape. There fore some times the fate has something else for you. There is no pilot who would take the type of weather wich was there so easy. Micro bursts are not easy to detect. Cockpit voice recorder would unfold the mystery of this accident like air blue. Lastly air travel is still the safest way if travelling.

  5. It was tragic, beyound all doubts. But, was an accident. Never planned. Unfortunately, like many other fields, we as a nation no (know) a little about aviation. As an airline pilot i believe that apart from all odds, there is one GOD, Who is the Supremest.
