Turkish language speeches, skits, songs, poems, documentary, gathering of diplomats and Turkish cultural foods were arranged to mark Turkish cultural day at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Wednesday.
Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Babur Hizlan was the Chief Guest in the Turkish Cultural Day and Turkish Speech Contest while the event was also attended by Azeri Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov and Ambassador of Cyprus Mustafa Arawan, officials from Pak-Turk Education Foundation, Turkish Embassy officials and their families and students from different departments of the university.
Addressing at the prize distribution ceremony Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Babur Hizlan said that “love and affection of Pakistani brothers inspire me,” he said.
He said that after witnessing students’ language proficiency and finding them communicating in Turkish language with equal ease reflect that Pakistani people also have a great urge to develop relations and interaction with their Turkish brothers and sister, he added.
He reiterated that Turkish Embassy and Government would continue to support the Turkish Department of NUML because it was only source to promote understanding of Turkish Language and culture and then provide an opportunity to Pakistani people to understand and join the pace of development and progress.
Moreover, Rector NUML Maj Gen (R) Masood Hasan speaking at the occasion said that Turkish department of the university was playing a vital role for the promotion of Turkish Language and hundreds of graduates of Turkish Department are serving at very important posts within country and abroad and earning good name to their country and department. He also praised efforts of Head of Turkish Department Dr Zakeriya Nas and Coordinator of event Ms Abida Haneef for arrangement of a very successful Turkish Cultural Day and Speech Contest.
Rector NUML, Director General NUML, and Ambassadors of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Cyprus distributed prizes among the winners of the Speech Contest. First prize of Turkey’s Return tickets was won by Ashfaq Ali, the second prize of Turkey’s Return tickets was lifted by Muhammad Rashid, the third prize of Rs 12,000 was won by Shehzad Azeem, fourth prize of Rs 10,000 was won by Farkhanda Jabeen while 5th prize of Rs 8,000 was won by Usmania Kosar. In the end Rector NUML presented University shields to the Ambassadors of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Cyprus. Moreover, the guests and students of department enjoyed the cultural food of Turkey.
