Pakistan Thalasaemia Federation is observing national thalassaemia week from tomorrow (Friday) to May 8 to create public awareness about the disease.
The programmes of the week include 8th National Thalasaemia Conference to be organized by Islamic International Medical College, a constitute institute of Riphah international University, at its Al-Mizan campus, Rawalpindi on Saturday and Sunday in collaboration with the Thalasaemia Federation of Pakistan.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee and the Principal of Islamic International Medical College told a press conference that renowned Scientist Dr. Samar Mubarak Mand will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the said conference .The Convener of Thalasaemia Federation of Pakistan, Dr. Yasmin Rashid and the Vice Chancellor of Riphah International University, Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad will be the key note speakers at inaugural session. It will also be addressed by the Present Thalasaemia Federation of Pakistan and Chairmen Organizing Committee besides the chief guest., he said.
Maj. Gen. Masood Anwar (R) briefed media persons about the Thalassaemia disease and its cure. He also explained the Thalassaemia situation in Pakistan and the preventive measures to control the spreading of the disease. He said the campus Radio Station of Riphah International University FM-102.2 is broadcasting special programs during the Thalassaemia week to promote awareness about the disease. The programs being broadcast daily in the morning and the evening are being participated by the doctors, Thalassaemia patients, their parents and NGOs.
