The British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Francis Campbell, hosted a reception on Friday evening to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
UK High Commissioner Thomson and Deputy High Commissioner Campbell welcomed the guests.
The reception at the British Deputy High Commission premises was attended among others by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, UK High Commissioner in Pakistan Adam Thomson, federal and provincial ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
Speaking on the occasion, Ebad said that the President of Pakistan had especially asked him to represent him at the Queen’s birth anniversary and diamond jubilee party.
He said the United Kingdom is an important country all-weather friend of Pakistan, which is an ally and a friend of the country. “Over the years the relationship between the two countries has gone from strength to strength,” he added.
The governor stated that this year marks the 60th year of Queen Elizabeth II as the head of Commonwealth, which has been an important symbolic and unifying role.
