Recent assertion of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in which he called for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations has evoked more appreciation from pro-liberation and pro-India leaders and parties. All Parties Hurriyet Conference leader, Nayeem Ahmed Khan in a statement termed Ban Ki-moon’s remarks as vindication of the stand of Hurriyet leadership,Kashmir Media Service reported. “It vindicates our stand.
It is unfortunate that different conflicts were resolved, but Kashmir dispute has been left out,” he said. The APHC leader maintained that the UN should not restrict itself to statements only otherwise its credibility would be at stake. Liberation leader, Javed Ahmed Mir in a media interview in Srinagar said that Kashmir was one of the oldest unresolved disputes that needed to be resolved without any further delay. “We have been waiting for the Kashmir resolution for past over six decades. UN should play a key role in solving the Kashmir issue in the same way it has resolved East Timor and Ireland issues,” he added.
Terming the assertion of the UN Chief as the voice of millions of Kashmiris who are waiting for Kashmir settlement for a long time, a JKLF spokesman said, “We welcome the statement of UN chief. He has talked in favour of a suppressed nation, which is appreciable.” He said that the Kashmiri leaders should be included in the talks process between Pakistan and India to settle the Kashmir problem.
Pro-India parties including National Conference, Congress, Peoples Democratic Party President and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have also welcomed the statement of Ban Ki-moon.
Peace in SAsia linked to Kashmir resolution: Salahuddin: Chairman of United Jihad Council Syed Salahuddin has said that peace and stability in South Asia hinges on a just and equitable settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
Syed Salahuddin in a statement appreciated the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s recent remarks on Kashmir, Kashmir Media Service reported. “The UN Secretary General’s statement on the issue of Kashmir is quite optimistic, however, there is dire need that the world body should take practical measures to settle this long-pending issue in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiris,” Syed Salahuddin said.
The UJC Chairman said that Kashmiris had offered huge sacrifices for settlement of Kashmir peacefully in line with the UN resolutions but India’s traditional intransigence and obduracy remained the main hurdle in the implementation of the relevant UN resolutions. “Ban Ki-moon’s statement is encouraging,” he added.
Eating berries reduce memory loss risk: Eating blueberries and strawberries at least once a week can slow down the process of age-related cognitive decline and memory loss. Harvard Medical School researchers focused on about 16,000 women who had participated in the Nurses’ Health Study. The study which began in 1979 recruited almost 122,000 registered nurses aged 30 to 55, Iranian Press TV reported.
The mental ability of the participants was measured every two years between 1995 and 2001 when they were older than 70. The results showed that women who ate the most blueberries and strawberries delayed their memory decline up to 2.5 years, says the report published in Annals of Neurology.
“Among women who consumed 2 or more servings of strawberries and blueberries each week we saw a modest reduction in memory decline,” said study author Dr. Elizabeth Devore. “This effect appears to be attainable with relatively simple dietary modifications.”
“Our findings have significant public health implications as increasing berry intake is a fairly simple dietary modification to test cognition protection in older adults,” she added. “What makes our study unique is the amount of data we analyzed over such a long period of time. No other berry study has been conducted on such a large scale.
