Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan has said a convicted criminal’s clinging to the office of the prime minister was setting a novel and shameful precedent in the country. He has counseled Yousaf Raza Gilani to immediately resign as a face-saving measure and announce elections because he and his cabinet did not have any constitutional status now nor was anybody bound to obey their orders. Talking to different delegations at Mansoora after his return from Quetta on Saturday, Hasan said ridiculing the judiciary and mocking at its decisions was in the PPP’s nature. Gilani’s claims of loyalty and protection of the constitution were ridiculous as he had been making a mockery of the apex court decisions for the last four years.
The JI chief also blamed the PML-N, saying it was equally responsible for the present mess in the country. He said the PML-N had not only provided the convicted man an opportunity to enter parliament but had also provided the PPP a free hand by staging a walk out. Hasan said practically, there was no government in the country at present and if the situation continued, disorder and anarchy would prevail. He advised Gilani to at least have mercy on himself if not the country and bow to the SC decision, giving up stubbornness adding that the government could not last long and time would soon come when millions of people would be on roads to demand his resignation. The JI chief also slated the Presidential Ordinance for whitening the black money and said at a time when the PPP government was on its way out, the ordinance was only a trick to protect the loot and plunder of the national wealth by the ministers. He also slated Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s complaint of the US not stopping drone attacks and said the government making the country a battle front and causing the killing of nearly 40,000 innocent people on the US’ dictation could not befool the masses by shedding crocodile tears. He said if the nation wanted to protect the country’s integrity and sovereignty, it must change its attitude. The PPP had made the country a slave of the IMF and the World Bank by burdening it under huge loans. The masses who had tried the PPP and the PML-N time and again should now be wise enough not vote for them.
