Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has decided not to engage in consultation with Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner after his conviction by the Supreme Court.
Sources said that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore on Friday that the Prime Minister contacted him over the telephone and again during the National Assembly session and spoke about the appointment of new Chief Election Commissioner.
The PML-N leaders told Nisar that as Mr Gilani has been convicted by the Supreme Court and the party do not recognize him as Prime Minister, the leader of the opposition should not hold consultation with him over appointment of Chief Election Commissioner.
The leader of the opposition also took Sharifs into confidence about his interaction over telephone with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Saim Saifullah Khan, Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo and informed them that the opposition parties would devise their course of action in their meetings soon over the situation arising after the conviction of Mr Gilani.
Chaudhry Nisar is expected to meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday. Meanwhile the Punjab Government has decided not to extend protocol facilities to the Prime Minister during his visit to Punjab after his conviction.
