World’s largest interest free microfinance organization Akhuwat will organize a human chain to mark the Anti Poverty Day from Jail Road to Mall Road on April 28.
Over the past decade Akhuwat has established itself as the globe’s major microfinance organization and its achievements were acknowledged by Harvard University earlier this month. The sheer amount of loans and their return ratio has become the subject of international academic research. Akhuwat has disbursed loans worth almost two billions with a whopping 99.8 per cent loan return ratio.
Despite Akhuwat keeping a low international profile, Harvard University invited Akhuwat’s executive chairman Dr. Amjad Saqib for a series of lectures. The Harvard University’s Schools of Business, Law and Public Affairs separately invited Dr. Amjad Saqib for lectures. Dr. Amjad Saqib is a KEMC graduate and a former DMG officer. He later became an accomplished writer and dedicated his life to eradicating poverty in Pakistan.
Lahore will mark the beginning of a series of Vigils to be organized across the globe in which the spirit of brotherhood and volunteerism will be promoted. The participants will carry candles and form a human chain to spread the message that the leviathan of poverty in Pakistan can be overcome by trust, volunteerism and a desire to help others. Similar Vigils will be organized in leading cities across the country. Some international cities most notably Cardfiff, Manchester, New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Toronto will also host the events.
