Nawaz Gohar, former special badminton champion, who turned badminton and cricket coach, is carrying his dream of training special children as a mission. Gohar despite being handicapped due to polio, kept his spirits high and became the champion in badminton and also played cricket despite his disability and had now become a badminton and cricket coach.
“I have spent all of struggling but I kept my spirits going on. I was around five years old when I was hit by the polio epidemic. But a badminton player inspired to the game and since my childhood I played badminton and became the champion. “I got rid of the clutches ad the game gave me ample strength which is not only keep me active in the game but have also started transfer the knowledge to youngsters who are also having the same problem. Speaking about the problems, Gohar said that first there is no separate ground or sports facility for the disabled people where they could go and play freely. “Its hard to mingle with the normal people and train with them. All we need is a place where young children could be given training to cope with the hardships of the life. “Second there is no special fund for the disabled persons grooming and there should also be academies for them where they could practice because it would make them overcome their disability,” he maintained.
He also has urged President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to provide him job and a ground where he may train the disabled children free of cost. He said that disabled persons were bringing laurels to the country and recently 75 disabled players went to Athens and won 57 medals which was a great honour for the country. “A huge budget is being spent on normal players but the result is not satisfactory while on the other hand, disabled players without good financial aids, striving hard and earning good name for the country,” he claimed.
He also urged the parents of physical handicap and MR children to send their handicapped children to the grounds which will help in improving their health and removing their disability.
