The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senators have criticised the Supreme Court’s decision against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, terming the day another “black day” in the history of the country.
“The apex court verdict is in continuation of the aggressiveness of the judiciary against PPP right from Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari and now Gilani,” the senators said during a press conference at PPP Sindh Media Cell Karachi on Thursday.
PPP senators Aijaz Dhamrah, Dr Karim Khuwaja and Adviser to Prime Minister Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Balochistan Communications Minister Ali Madad Jatak and Fida Hussain Dhakan among others were present at the briefing.
People across the country are registering their reaction on the decision and expressing anger that why is the elected prime minister of PPP always made a target, they said.
“We appeal to the people of Sindh especially to keep calm and control their expression. We are a democratic party and know that we are being punished because we are the only federal party in the country,” said Senator Dhamrah
He was of the view that the PPP has never received justice from courts. “Benazir Bhutto was dragged in the courts over false cases throughout her life. The trial of her grave is still continuing,” he added.
“The PPP workers will not allow anyone to conduct the trial of Benazir Bhutto’s grave,” Dhamrah warned.
The senator said the PPP is not afraid of losing power but it is the only party which is given such decisions. “Why the judiciary always makes the PPP its target?”
“Nawaz Sharif must tell the nation why his party had attacked the Supreme Court,” he said.
Despite the Supreme Court’s decision against PPP, not a single stone was thrown at the apex court by the PPP, said Dhamrah. “We respect the judiciary.”
Baig was of the view that the people of Sindh were very angry on the Supreme Court verdict but the PPP is trying to control its workers.
“Today was a sad day for all people who believe in democracy. We will appeal the decision,” he said. “The judiciary has no authority to stop an elected prime minister from coming to office. There is a procedure for it.”
