A Gordian knot?

The engineers and writers have now been writing since a quarter century about the dire need of building of Kalabagh dam to solve the ever increasing shortage of water and power bedevilling the agricultural and industrial progress of 180 million people of Pakistan. It is a shame that our prime minister declares Kalabagh dam as a victim of politics.

This denotes an abject failure of our venerable politicians to see the light of day to the misery of teeming millions that are portrayed as silent lambs to keep on suffering under prolonged load shedding and escalation of power bills due to lack of hydel generation at a low cost. All the efforts by learned engineers have fallen on deaf ears and the Gordian knot of Kalabagh dam has not been unravelled by both the ruling parties and those in opposition

The politicians having failed miserably in their fissiparous tendencies to agree on such a vital project like Kalabagh dam that has pushed Pakistan to face an existential threat by creating a water crisis as India that is building scores of dam on the three western rivers of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab while we sit with our fingers crossed having not built a single mega dam since the last four decades.
