The Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry second Vintage Car Rally started from the Liberty Market and ended outside the LCCI and provided Lahoris an opportunity to watch classic vehicles rolling in front of them on city roads.
The participants were greeted throughout their route by people who had gathered along Gulberg’s Main Boulevard and Jail Road in good numbers. There was Roll OB of 1936, Rolls Royce, Austin 10 of 1941, a Jeep of 1942, Humber Pullman of 1949, Chevrolet Belair of 1957, Beetle, Mercedez Benz 1962, Willeys Jeep of 1952, Austin Princess of 1958, Impala 1964, Morris 1967, Mustang 1965, Chrysler 1966 and Fiat of 1959. A Volkswagon of 1978 was the `youngest’ vehicle taking part in the rally. Immediate past president of the Lahore Chamber brought his Chevrolet Belair of 1957. The rally showcased some of the country’s most important cars, making it a legendary event that drew great enthusiasm from participants and spectators, who viewed these beauties at city roads.
Member Punjab Assembly Mohsin Latif, President LCCI Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Senior Vice President Kashif Younis Meher, Vice President Saeeda Nazar, Lahore Shopping Festival Convener Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and former LCCI presidents and executive committee members welcomed the participants at Liberty. The chief executive of Trafco Tracking Tahir Malik, the sponsor of the rally, was also present on the occasion. The Member Punjab Assembly Mohsin Latif said on the occasion the festival had given a lease of life to the residents of the city who were looking for such beautiful functions. He said the Punjab government would continue to support all such events aimed at strengthening the economy of the country.
LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said the vintage cars participating in the rally were actually an automotive heritage and needs to be celebrated. He said the rally was a part of the Chambers continued efforts to preserve and present the vintage heritage of city. He said in a gathering of over fifty well preserved vintage automobiles is a living testimony of business community’s interest in preserving the glorious past. He said the rally marks the fourth day of Lahore Shopping Festival 2012 and it has very successfully showed the best of the Lahore. He said that the three-day Second Lahore Expo being inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Friday (today) would help bring the real potential of Lahore into the limelight.
