The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Wednesday approved an increase of Rs 2.38 in the power tariff. NEPRA officials said that the power tariff had been increased under the monthly fuel adjustment charges, while date of its imposition on bills would be announced later. Officials said that this increase would not be implemented on the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC).
In a statement released by NEPRA, the Central Power Purchasing Agency said that extra power was generated from diesel and furnace oil in the month of January and February due to which power tariff was raised by 59 paisa in January and Rs1.79 per unit in February. After the final approval by the federal government, this hike will be charged from all consumers, however people consuming up to 100 units will be exempted from this hike.
