Death toll from the Tuesday evening blast at city’s main Railway Station reached four as two brothers succumbed to injuries on late Wednesday night at Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
The brothers were identified as Mahmood Khan and Amir Sohail, residents of Khanpur. They were present at the Lahore Railway Station along with their 13 family members including parents, four sisters, two uncles, two aunts, two cousins and grandmother when the bomb exploded.
The brothers had sustained serious head injuries and were shifted to the neurological ward at Mayo Hospital, where doctors had little hope of their survival.
All 14 family members of deceased’s family sustained injuries in the blast and were admitted at different hospital for medical aid.
On the other hand, 35 injured citizens were discharged while 31 were still being treated. Hospital sources said 27 injured victims were still admitted in Mayo Hospital, 1 in Ganga Ram Hospital, 1 at Children Hospital while 2 are under treatment at Services Hospital.
FUNERALS: Meanwhile funeral prayer of a cop of railway police, Muhammad Idrees, was held at Railway Police Lines earlier on Wednesday. Railway Police Inspector General Syed Ibne Hussain, Railway GM Naeem Malik, Railway Police AIG Intezar Ahmed Qureshi and others also attended the funeral.
Martyred cop was also given guard of honour after funeral prayers.
Ibne Hussain said investigations had started and the Railway Police had been ordered to be on high alert.
INVETSIGATIONS: Investigators have not been able to trace any major clue during course of investigation in the bomb blast that not only created panic among the citizens but have also thwart all the arrangement made by security agencies to secure the city. A senior cop of Investigation Wing on condition of anonymity told Pakistan Today that initially they had recorded statements of all injured victim of blast but they have not been able to trace any major clue from the statements of victims.
“We had determined in initial interrogations that the martyred cops Muhammad Idrees was much close than the porter which shows that either the cop was checking the bag or was standing close to it,” he said adding that porter was not carrying the bag.
He said that at the moment they were investigating on three lines: involvement of Indian intelligence, Lashkar-e-Balochistan or any local criminals.
Talking in details about these aspects, investigators confided to Pakistan Today that they could not ignore the possibility of Indian Intelligence Agency’s role because they had a history of hatching such terrorist design against Pakistan only to spread uncertainty in the country. Official further said that though Laskar-e-Taliban has claimed the responsibility of the attack but they will further verify their statement in order to know the reason behind their act. They further added that involvement of any local element could not be ignored too.
However, mystery about how the blast occurred still prevails in the minds of investigators and it is expected that new aspects of it will come to the surface in coming days.
