PM must resign after SC’s judgement: Imran

Hailing the Supreme Court’s decision of convicting Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in a contempt case, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said the independent judiciary had given a gift to the nation by indicting a powerful man.
The PTI chairman said the PM should immediately resign after being convicted by the Supreme Court.
He called on the prime minister to immediately resign from office and reiterated that how could the people be expected respect the judiciary if the PM did not.
Addressing a press conference, the PTI chief said it was disappointing to see the coalition march in step with the prime minister to the Supreme Court. They had not gone to the court to protect national interest but they all wanted to escape accountability. “They are well aware that an accountability drive is initiated they will be caught in corruption cases. The coalition government is a corruption union which is hell bent to fill its own coffers.”
Khan declared the PPP’s protests against the court’s decision a shameful act and said it was a historic day for the courts when they indicted a powerful person.
“It is the first time that the biggest robbers of the country have been brought to justice which is why they have all joined together. I congratulate the entire nation and particularly the lawyer community because their struggle for an independent judiciary has paid off today.” During the press conference, Khan was flanked by senior party leaders including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Hamid Khan and Sadaqat Abbasi. Khan said even though some government collation partners were with the PTI in the struggle for restoration of judiciary but now due to their support for the status quo, they were standing with Gilani.
