Hailing the Supreme Court’s decision of convicting Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in a contempt case, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said the independent judiciary had given a gift to the nation by indicting a powerful man.
The PTI chairman said the PM should immediately resign after being convicted by the Supreme Court.
He called on the prime minister to immediately resign from office and reiterated that how could the people be expected respect the judiciary if the PM did not.
Addressing a press conference, the PTI chief said it was disappointing to see the coalition march in step with the prime minister to the Supreme Court. They had not gone to the court to protect national interest but they all wanted to escape accountability. “They are well aware that an accountability drive is initiated they will be caught in corruption cases. The coalition government is a corruption union which is hell bent to fill its own coffers.”
Khan declared the PPP’s protests against the court’s decision a shameful act and said it was a historic day for the courts when they indicted a powerful person.
“It is the first time that the biggest robbers of the country have been brought to justice which is why they have all joined together. I congratulate the entire nation and particularly the lawyer community because their struggle for an independent judiciary has paid off today.” During the press conference, Khan was flanked by senior party leaders including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Hamid Khan and Sadaqat Abbasi. Khan said even though some government collation partners were with the PTI in the struggle for restoration of judiciary but now due to their support for the status quo, they were standing with Gilani.
Mr. Khan why you naively expect such acts of some moral value from these politicians. They will fight to defend & hide their corruption till they are shoed out of their power zones to the ditches of oblivion.
Kaptaan must take the initative and deliver the final blow to this corrupt government
yes wht has Imran demanded is quite right bcz once an official person declare guilty by ur suprem court so he ought to get out of his office,,,
Mr.Gillani plz leave us,,
thank u so much for lotting us so much as usual ur son did
Honour and dignity of response would favor Imran's recommendation for the PM to resign. Unfortunately, that response is the response of a nation which sees politics as public service, and politicians, public servants. Instead here in Pakistan people -both politicos and public- believe it is a person's jagir, his endowment, or his occupation. This banal interpretation however misses out 100's of years of human history which shows that democracy, or participation of the community in its own governance, is by far the most desirable form governing and running pluralist, diverse societies.
Sidie (side character) in the new political drama…
yes imran khan is right and also take pm to adiala jail
Nawaz and Imran Khan both r Rightist religious extremist and protect interests of Central Punjab based Punjabi urban middle classes, corrupt busniess mafia, mullahs and anti-people elite and they hv support basis in intelligence agencies, establishment sections that r Punjab dominated and supportive of status quo. Nothing can b expected from them.

As much as I hats this corrupt and incompetent govt, I don't think gillani should resignas the judiciary has been targeting the govt only and has been persistent to open up Althea Swiss case. Whereas the cases against nawaz and his goons have been lying unheard in the supreme court for years but they are not call nawaz in asghar Khan case or mehran bank or hudaibya paper mill case. The first order given by ifti ch the day he was reinstated was to allow shahbaz to be the CM of Punjab. This the most biased judiciary and sits in nawaz's laps.
yes
