The city district government has failed to achieve its targets of cleanliness drive due to presence of buffaloes in the city which cause a major hindrance in clearing the municipality of litter and garbage. The solid waste management department (SWMD) of the city district government Rawalpindi and local members of the provincial assembly has decided to launch an organised cleanliness campaign in the city and set the targets to give a cleaner look to the town. However the cattle heads found to be a big hindrance in the way of the authorities to achieve the targets. It is decided that in the second phase, a weekly cleanliness drive would be conducted in all union councils of the city. The SWMD has formed teams of four workers in every union council. Earlier, Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Administrator Anwar Saif Jappa said that operation against the buffaloes’ owners would be carried out without any discrimination. He warned the milkmen would be heavily fined and may be imprisoned besides confiscation of their cattle in case of non-compliance of the orders. The people of the areas demanded to take strict action against the violators otherwise, it is feared that dengue virus can hit these localities.
