Police have arrested a serial killer, who killed a number of women after subjecting them to rape, from Soldier Bazaar on Tuesday.
Per reports, the police raided a house located in Soldier Bazaar and arrested Rafique Soomro, who is said to be involved in the murders of several women.
Talking to Pakistan Today, the Investigation Officer (IO) of a murdered woman Nasreen, whose body parts were found in plastic bags from Soldier Bazaar, Jamshaid Quarters, Guru Mandir and MA Jinnah Road in March, said the police traced a cell-phone number to reach the serial killer.
“We started investigation when we found pieces of a woman from different parts of Mazar-e-Quaid in March, he said, adding that the police sent the body pieces for postmortem. He said the autopsy report of the body pieces confirmed that the parts were of the same woman. “In the meanwhile, we found some body pieces of another woman in plastic bags from the same areas in April, he said, adding that the identity of the second victim woman could not be ascertained as yet.
“During investigation, it was revealed that the serial killer used Nasreen’s cell-phone 16 days after her murder,” he said, adding that the police traced the calls to Rafique Soomro.
During investigation, Rafique confessed that he had killed several women. Rafique told police that he and his friend Iqbal picked up women from different areas of the city and killed them after subjecting them to rape.
Rafique said that they used to cut the bodies into pieces and disposed off the parts in different areas to avoid arrest.
According to the IO, Rafique and Iqbal were rickshaw drivers and claimed during interrogation that they were killing the women to stop the spread of vulgarity in society.
They also told police that they used to kill their victims on the 9th of every month. Apparently, the killers were following the plot of an Indian film released last year.
Jamshaid Quarters DSP Qaiser said that the serial killer has confessed to killing only two women in March and April. He said that the murderer belongs to Sukkur and was also suspected of killing some women there.
