Rs 9.5m taken in Karachi bank heist; guard involved

Six armed men succeeded in robbing over Rs 9.5 million rupees from a private bank at PECHS Block 06 in the jurisdiction of Tipu Sultan Police Station on Tuesday. Talking to Pakistan Today, SHO Haji Sanaullah said that six robbers barged into Habib Bank’s PECHS branch at around 9pm with the support of security guard Najaf Ali. Four of them guarded the doors, while the other two collected at gunpoint over 9.5 million rupees from the cashier and strong room, he said, adding that Najaf fled along with the other men.
He said the bank manager informed the police and a party rushed to the spot. He said the police had secured the CCTV footage of the crime. He said that six robbers arrived in a hi-roof and fled after looting the bank. The SHO claimed that the armed robbers took the guard with them to show that the bank staff were going to transfer cash to the head office. He said the case had been transferred to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and a first information report no 141/ 12 under section 395 had been lodged against Najaf Ali and six unidentified robbers on the complaint of the bank manager late on Tuesday night.
