Justice Project Pakistan is delighted that Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali promised the students at LUMS during the panel discussion on “Pakistan and the US: Bagram as a grounds for divorce?” that he would personally table a motion to have PTI take up the cause of the repatriation of Pakistani Detainees at Bagram, Afghanistan.
In addition, Syeda Abida Hussain said that, “these young men need the government of Pakistan to give active assistance in securing their release. Due reason has to be given and due process must be followed. I have no hesitation in saying that this is wrong and that the government of Pakistan should do whatever it takes.”
The panel discussion was organized by LUMS Law and Politics Society and Justice Project Pakistan. Justice Project Pakistan is currently representing 9 of these detainees, and planning to represent all of the 32.
On Wednesday, 25th April, JPP will ask Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the Lahore High Court to pass an order to require the Pakistani government to take concrete steps towards the repatriation of its detainees. Specifically, JPP will be asking for greater transparency about the process of repatriation, and how the government of Pakistan can bring this about as soon as possible.
